Donald Trump is ready to ban TikTok from operating in the United States. Bloomberg said the American president said he was ready to sign the documents needed to ban the application, either by executive order or by emergency.
The threat of a complete ban in the United States was first mentioned on July 7. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo declared that “it is something we are considering”. However, it was suggested that TikTok avoid its ban by becoming an American company.
Rumors emerged from this hypothesis that ByteDance, the company that owns TikTok, would be considering selling the app to Microsoft. However, last Friday, Donald Trump denied these rumors, saying that this deal will not happen.
Without the chance of being bought by an American company, TikTok is even at risk of be completely banned in the United States. We will then have the ban on another popular brand, in addition to Huawei and ZTE which have already been banned from the American territory.
India is also considering banning TikTok
Being “neighbors”, India would be expected to support TikTok, regardless of its alleged links to the Chinese government. However, the Indian government shares the same concerns as the American government, as they consider TikTok to be a threat to national security.
Recently, India issued a list of dozens of applications that it considers harmful to security nationwide, including TikTok. It is likely that in the next few days we will see developments in relation to this situation, although not very positive for ByteDance.
