Extract from today’s press release Apple:

AirPlay 2 allows you to create an advanced wireless multi-room audio system for convenient transfer of music or podcasts from anywhere in the house to different devices that work absolutely synchronously. While listening to music, it is sufficient to select or deselect the devices on which music is played through the Control Room or to ask Siri to play music in the desired room, group of rooms or throughout the house. HomePod automatically supports the functions of AirPlay 2, so that music can be broadcast throughout the house without having to manually group the speakers.

AirPlay 2 controls are available in all iOS and Control Room applications, so you can easily control playback in every room, on each speaker. And Apple Music subscribers can ask Siri to put different songs in different rooms or the same song around the house, even without leaving the room. HomePod – just like the iPhone and iPad – will be able to communicate with other AirPlay 2 speakers as they appear, so Siri will be able to control the music playback on the Bang & Olufsen, Bluesound, Bose, Bowers & Wilkins, Denon, Libratone, Marantz , Marshall, Naim, Pioneer and Sonos.

What’s New in the HomePod System Update

At last year’s WWDC conference, Apple named several companies, whose columns will support AirPlay 2. Among them were Bang & Olufsen, Denon, Marantz and Naim, and now the list has become much longer.
