One day after announcing the presentation date of his next top of the range, Pete Lau appears on the OnePlus community forum to speak about the OnePlus 8 family. This time, the CEO of the Chinese company comes to confirm some of the specifications of these smartphones.
Lau did not take a complete approach to the hardware of the upcoming OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro. He focused only on important details that will live up to the “fast and smooth” motto that the company has displayed in its Device.
Confirmed OnePlus 8 specifications
- 120Hz refresh rate display
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor
- LPDDR5 type RAM
- UFS 3.0 internal memory
First of all, it is important to note that the 120Hz refresh rate of the screen should only be applied to the OnePlus 8 Pro. The other model should stay at 90Hz which, even so, will offer an incredible viewing experience.
The presence of the Snapdragon 8645 processor is also not a surprise, but an important confirmation after some companies are fleeing this SoC. This means that the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro will be 25% faster and 35% more efficient than the OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro.
How important is LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.0 memory
When we talk about a higher refresh rate of the screen or a newer processor, almost everyone already knows what that implies. But when we specify the type of memory for a smartphone, not everyone will know its importance.
In this sense, the combination of LPDDR5 RAM modules and UFS 3.0 internal storage will further enhance the speed of these smartphones.
LPDDR5 RAM is already a standard at the top of the market. These modules offer data transfer up to 51.2GB per second. In addition, they consume 45% less energy than the previous generation.
On the other side we have the UFS 3.0 internal storage which, although its successor has already been presented, is the one that applies to Device such as the Galaxy S20, Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro or Huawei P40 Pro. This standard allows writing and reading speeds of up to 1700MB per second.
In short, the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro will continue to be among the fastest smartphones on the market. The Chinese company spared no effort in this field and bought the best components currently available.
On a last note, just remember that this pair will be revealed on April 14th. There are two weeks left to find out all the details about the OnePlus 8, but it won’t be surprising if more data is confirmed soon.
