If you do not respond to an incoming notification on the watch, watchOS will save it in the Notification Center. To notify you that you have unread notifications, the system will display a red dot at the top of the dial.
The red dot disappears when there are no unread notifications left in the Notification Center.
Some users this red indicator distracts from the already loaded dial. Below we describe how to turn off the indicator of unread notifications on the Apple Watch display.
How to turn off the notification indicator
1) Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
2) Select the My Watch tab.
3) Select the Notifications section.
4) Click the switch next to the Notification Indicator.
Now the red dot will not be displayed on the dial, even when you have unread notifications. You will continue to receive a tactile signal for incoming notifications.
The function description says: “When this function is enabled, a red dot appears on the clock display when there are unread notifications.”
Recall that Apple Watch displays notifications only when the watch is on your wrist and unlocked. They are also smart enough to understand when you are using your iPhone, and not to display notifications also on the clock.
To view unread notifications, swipe down from the top edge. This will open the Notification Center. Until watchOS 5, the control point on a smartwatch could only be opened from the dial, and now also from applications.
