Screenshots are an integral part of Mac work for most users. In previous versions of macOS, the keyboard shortcut did a great job with this task, but a special screenshots tool appeared in macOS Mojave. Below we describe how to use it.
How to take a screenshot keyboard shortcut
To take a screenshot of the entire screen, hold down Command + Shift + 3 on the keyboard.
To take a screenshot of a part of the screen, hold down Command + Shift + 4 . Use the mouse to select the area you want to capture.
To take a screenshot of the window, hold down Command + Shift + 4 , press the Spacebar , select the window, and then click the mouse button or the Enter key.
When the screenshot is taken, it will not appear on the screen immediately, as in previous versions of macOS. In macOS Mojave, only a preview of the screenshot will appear in the lower right corner of the screen, from where you can interact with it. Thus, you can easily edit, move and share screenshots.
How to take a screenshot using a special tool
There are two ways to open the tool for screenshots:
Through the Finder, open the program folder, go to the Utilities and select Screenshot.
Or hold down the keyboard key Command + Shift + 5.
Any method will open a tool for working with screenshots from the bottom of the screen. There will be located convenient buttons in order to do:
Screenshot of the entire screen.
Screenshot of selected window.
Screenshot of the screen.
The tool also allows you to record screen, as in QuickTime. The following options are available:
Record the entire screen.
Record selected part of the screen.
You can also select the folder for saving screenshots and records by default and turn on the timer countdown to the screenshot. You can also turn off the appearance of small previews and enable the screenshot history. You can enable or disable the display of the cursor in the screenshots.
The toolbar can be dragged around the screen. In the screenshots, the panel itself will not be displayed.
Interaction with the preview
When you take a screenshot, a small preview will appear on the screen. It will automatically disappear after five seconds if you do nothing with it. You can remove the preview yourself by wiping it to the right. After that, the screenshot is immediately saved to the default folder.
You can drag previews to a program like Mail or Messages to quickly share a screenshot.
If you click on the preview with the right mouse button, additional options will appear: save to a specific location, open in programs, open in Finder, delete, edit, etc.
If you click on the screenshot with the left mouse button, it will open in Quick Look in full size. Here you can edit it, share it or crop it (if this is a video).
Most likely, most users will continue to use the familiar keyboard shortcut Command + Shift + 3/4. A new tool is quite convenient, but it is too long to open.
It is especially convenient that with the help of the tool you can also record the screen.
