How to set dynamic wallpapers in MacOS Mojave

Dynamic wallpapers is one of the new features of MacOS, thanks to this your Mac desktop wallpaper changes automatically throughout the day. For example, if you select a standard wallpaper with a desert, during the day it will display a landscape with a day dessert, and at night – with a night one. This is a very nice visual effect.

Dynamic wallpapers are supported only MacOS Mojave 10.14 and newer. Below we will explain how to enable them.

How to install dynamic wallpapers for Mac

  1. Open the Apple menu and select System Preferences.
  2. Now select Desktop and Screen Saver and go to Desktop Panel.
  3. In the “Dynamic desktop background” section, select one of the available wallpapers.

These wallpapers can be displayed as dynamic (i.e. they will change during the day) or as a permanent image (dark or light). After you set the dynamic wallpaper, the desktop image will change throughout the day.

For example, in the middle of the day the wallpaper will look like this:

And at night you will see these wallpapers:

There will be many more images available that correspond to the time of day. The effect will be as if you are watching the real desert all day: the sun rises and sets behind the horizon, stars appear, the moonlight falls at different angles. This is just amazing!

Dynamic wallpapers are the exclusive feature of macOS Mojave 10.14, but previous versions of the system contain a similar feature with which wallpapers change automatically at set intervals.

How to use camera effects in FaceTime video calls

So far, MacOS Mojave has few dynamic wallpapers available, but in the future there may be more. Perhaps the function will start to support and third-party wallpaper. Already now you can set time-lapse from your iPhone as dynamic wallpaper.
