Google wants to bring Augmented Reality to Android and iOS smartphones

Augmented Reality has been one of the most fashionable technologies in recent times. Once we begin to see a greater bet of technology in the market of Virtual Reality, now the focus begins to turn to Augmented Reality. With that done, Google wants to widen its presence in this market by bringing this technology to any Android or iOS smartphone.

First of all, it is necessary to elucidate yourself to what is the Augmented Reality. This technology allows you to use a real and physical scenario and add something virtual to it, something that is not physically in that space. A good example of this is the image you have at the top of this article.

The bet on this market began to gain strength from 2015. It was earlier this year that Microsoft introduced its HoloLens, the first independent device able to take advantage of the full potential of this technology.

More recently we have the new iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X equipped with cameras capable of taking advantage of the Augmented Reality. Just here we have an indicator that it does not need specific hardware and thought of this technology so that the user can take advantage of it.

Do not forget Google ARCode, which was introduced in August 2017, and which provides compatible Android smartphones with the same technology described in the previous paragraph. Now, Google plans to further extend its presence in the Augmented Reality market by taking it to any Android or iOS smartphone or even the PC’s.

To achieve this feat, Google has been working on ways to bring this technology to the web. What the company intends is to create a Web browser compatible with Augmented Reality. It is assumed, then, that this browser is compatible with several platforms, be it Android, iOS or even a PC.

Once you click on this button, the camera on your smartphone will be activated and you can then transpose the template you found on the web to a certain physical space – of course, of course. This will be particularly useful when you are shopping online and want to see if the dimensions of a particular article are compatible with the physical space you have to place it.This will be possible thanks to a 3D visualization model that Google has dubbed Article. When it loads into a browser with Augmented Reality capabilities, a dedicated button will appear in the lower right corner.

Finally, it should be pointed out that all this is still in the prototype. Google is improving this new technology, and it is not yet known when it will be available to all users.
