After a long wait, the desired dark mode is finally reaching the first users of Google Maps. The change was noticed by users who shared it on Reddit.
This mode is not just for some parts of the app, but it covers your entire area. It was found in version 10. 51. 1 of the app, but only for users who already have Android 11 installed.
If you have this version of the operating system installed and dark mode enabled on the system, it may already be available if you start Google Maps. Within the app you can choose whether to keep it by default or always in dark / light mode.
If, like me, you use Google Maps, you know that the app already has a kind of dark mode at night or when you enter a tunnel. In this case, the objective is to bring that experience to all navigation and menus.
This change promises to be not only friendly to your eyes, but also friendly to your battery if you have an AMOLED screen. If you would like to have everything in this mode for aesthetic reasons, it will be another app to embark on this trend.
You should take into account that, for now, the functionality is still available on very few devices. But it will be a matter of time before Google reaches all users.
