Indeed, based on the information provided by The Verge, what is certain is that, first of all, not everyone sees Microsoft’s acquisition of the company as a bad thing. Quite the opposite. First of all, there is the question of the past of the Redmond company.
In fact, in the Steve Ballmer Era, open-source software was not always referenced with the best words. However, as stated earlier, this position is part of the company’s past.
On the other hand, there is still the question that, for GitHub, is the most dramatic. The acquisition by a technological giant was inevitable. No doubt. The big question would be: by whom?
Microsoft and GitHub stick to the friendly acquisition example …
At least that’s what some of its contributors say, which say it would only be a matter of time before Microsoft, Google or Facebook acted that way.
The bad part of the acquisition, in turn, passes therefore by the lack of obstacles faced by the technological giants in the purchase of other companies. That is, something that only leads to the monopolization of the market, albeit in a less pure state than that which the word itself indicates.
Finally, there is also the rumor about Google’s failed attempt to acquire the company. Theoretically, the negotiation existed, but there it is, it did not come to fruition.
Now, only time will tell if Microsoft will get the full benefit of joining GitHub. We’ll see.
