The shooting happened while a tournament was being broadcast live on the Twitch. According to the Sheriff’s Office in Jacksonville, a suspect is dead at the scene.
According to local police, the event has no connection to any terrorist group.
The stream shows two players playing Madden, and at that time several shots and shouts can be heard (this footage was removed by Twitch).
A player from the team’s tournament withPlexity tweeted that he was shot in the thumb.
At a brief press conference, Sheriff Mike Williams assured that the area was controlled.
Later he confirmed: “There were three individuals killed on the scene, one of them being the suspect who took his own life.”
However, earlier reports had incorrectly stated that there were four dead. Several people were injured in the shooting, all of them stable.
The suspect is believed to have resided in Baltimore, Maryland. The FBI is looking for his home in Baltimore as well as the suspect’s car that was seized in Jacksonville.
