“Please don’t type or ask questions when the session is ongoing.

“There’s enough time allocated for the Q&A. If you have any questions you want answered about the ALC program Kindly go to https://www.sli.do/ enter code 5295

“Do ensure to review already asked questions and vote (if it’s the same question you’d like to ask)..

Andela’s Mission
Andela’s mission is to advance human potential by powering today’s teams and investing in tomorrow’s leaders.

“Andela is excited to partner (ALC 2.0) with top technology companies like Google and Udacity to more equitably distribute opportunity to talented aspiring technologists across Nigeria and Kenya

“*Goal of ALC 2.0 supported by Google*
The goal of Andela Learning Community supported by Google is to kick-start your journey in becoming an Android Developer, Web developer or product designer through Udacity’s Google Development courses that will focus on Beginners and Intermediates.

“Udacity have prepared a unique environment for you on their platform that will set you own a path for success. So far as you are passionate and determined to commit to owning your learning and making the best out of the program.

“The program/course will run for ~4 months ( Your learning officially starts tomorrow, 25th November – March 2018)

“Udacity will enroll you on their platform that is designed specially for this program. Therefore, it will be online, self driven, and Andela will support to make sure that you completely go through the course for the next 4 months.
(some you have already been enrolled, please be patient with them if you have not)

NOTE Product design learners: You must be wondering when you will be onboarded on Udacity to start your course?
You will be engaging with the Product Design Course for the course by enrolling on Udacity yourself. The course is free and there won’t be a special onboarding from Udacity.

“Andela is building a peer learning group system to support you journey and will come up with milestones to track your learning and for you to get certified by the end of the program. You will also have in person meetups. This is only available for Product Design learners in Lagos, Nigeria only.

Our Philosophy
3 things that will help you succeed in this awesome journey that you have started (Yes! I, your humble faceless :mask: admin will be repeating it because it’s important)

3 things that will help you succeed in this awesome journey that you have started.

1. Build Our Community
2. Drive Your Learning
3. Hold Each Other Accountable

“1. Build Our Community
2. Drive Your Learning
3. Hold Each Other Accountable

Drive Your Learning and Hold Each Other Accountable
One practice we would like you to learn from Andela is the idea that *You Own Your Learning*. What you learn will be up to you. And what others learn will be driven by how you support others. We encourage you all to share resources, ask questions, seek help, and provide mentorship to one another.

“A Learning Community Ambassador (LCA) is a volunteer in the “Andela Learning Community supported by Google” – whose goal is to drive maximum engagement and interactions among learners in the ALC program by providing relevant support (such as facilitation, mentorship and code review)

“We have Meetup Facilitators who will organise and facilitate ALC meetups in your region for ALC beginner learners in the Android or Web development tracks

“We have Community Mentors, they will assist and mentor ALC beginner learners on the Android and Web development tracks. See the LCA mentor documentation for more information. You will see them in your Peer Learning Groups (PLGs)

“We also have Code reviewers, they will review the project of intermediate learners in ALC 2.0, providing feedback on their code structure, code quality and functionality based on a set guideline.

“And finally we have the Regional Program Assistants
They work directly with the Andela Team to generate and champion strategies that would drive maximum completion for the ALC program in their various regions. They will interface with other LCAs to make sure you have the best experience in your region.

We will jump into another session. Which would be to answer questions that you shared prior to today’s meeting.

At the end of the course will there be any certification?
Yes, you will get a certification courtesy Andela, Google & Udacity upon completion of the course. This is not the goal for us. The goal is for you to be empowered to become world class technologists.

Are there physical meetups or is it purely online learning?
Yes, there will be physical meetups across Kenya & Nigeria even though the course is majorly online.

Are we to proceed with the course or wait till tomorrow 24th
Official kick-off is the 25th November, 2017. Please start learning and don’t wait for anybody.

I don’t have a reliable internet connection, when will the offline content be available?

We plan to distribute offline contents and the meetup facilitators in your region will share them during the meetups.

About the meetups. Are they a must to attend physically before one can be certified to have completed the program? What if for a reason one can’t make a meetup?

It’s not a must. But we encourage you to make the meetups. Beyond the benefits for your learning. We also encourage collaboration, you might meet your future co-founder at the ALC 2.0 meetups. You never know!

Will the learning be only through the Udacity platform or is it just an additional resource?
All learning content is provided only on the Udacity platform.

My track which is web beginner, the tutorial on udacity is about 30hrs, if i finish this tutorial and the associated project within one month, what step is next
We encourage you to keep practicing. Master your craft, look for real-world scenario projects you can apply what you’ve learned into. Both online and with interactions with people.

Are going to have projects to work on?
Yes, there are projects entailed in each course, both for beginners and intermediates.

That’s all for today’s ALC 2.0 Slack Kick-Off Chat Session with our amazing Learners
