Earlier this year it became known that AirPort Express will start supporting AirPlay 2 and the Dom app. But soon the device ceased to be supported by the application in iOS 11.2, and many decided that it would not be updated at all. In the beta version of iOS 12 support was returned, and this is good news for the owners of AirPort Express.
Now, Apple has finally released a system update for AirPort Express (2 generations), adding support for AirPlay 2 and Home applications. The number of the new firmware version is 7.8.
AirPlay 2 means that users can simultaneously stream music to several different devices with technology support, including HomePod, other speakers and Apple TV. In AirPorts Express there is a port to which you can connect a column.
When updating the AirPort Express firmware, add the device in the Home app. After that, you can use AirPlay 2 to play music through the column connected to the device.
What’s best, AirPort Express with version 7.8 is supported by both iOS 12 and iOS 11.4.1. Accordingly, you can use the new function now.
