BMW presented 8K cinema for cars [VIDEO]

At CES 2022, BMW made a surprise announcement by unveiling a giant screen called Theater Screen. It will be built into the ceiling of cars and will not allow passengers in the rear seats to get bored during long trips.

Theater Screen with a diagonal of 31 inches and a resolution of 8000x2000 pixels is capable of playing content with an aspect ratio of 16: 9, 21: 9 or 32: 9. The display supports 5G networks and runs Amazon's Fire OS, which allows you to access most of the Fire TV video streaming services and apps. Theater Screen supports touch input, but it can also be controlled using a small display built into the door.

The “private cinema” effect in the Theater Screen complements the sound BMW is positioning as 4D: some of the 30 British-made Bowers & Wilkins speakers are integrated into the seats, allowing viewers to feel the sound vibrations. Another interesting detail will help to make watching the movie more comfortable: when the screen is lowered from the ceiling, the curtains on the rear and side windows are also lowered, and the lighting in the rear of the car becomes dim.

While BMW did not provide a price or exact release date for Theater Screen, it did say the system is ready to go into production. The company did not disclose whose matrix is used in this car cinema and in which models it will be installed.
