Twitter will display preview images of Instagram links again

For a long time, Facebook did not allow Twitter users to see previews of Instagram links in tweets, but now this problem has been solved. Starting today, tweets will show not only the URL of the post on Instagram, but also the image that the link points to.

Twitter will display preview images of Instagram links again

Instagram turned off the ability to display previews in tweets after the social network was acquired by Facebook (now called Meta) in 2012. Kevin Systrom, founder and former CEO of Instagram, said he didn't make the decision. The initiative belonged directly to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. However, Instagram was not the only party to make changes limiting Twitter integration. Twitter itself turned off a feature that allowed it to find people that a user followed on Instagram, a few months after the announcement of the takeover of the latest Facebook.

Journalists of the online edition The Verge note that they have not yet seen a preview of Instagram posts on Twitter. The change is likely to unfold gradually. Neither Instagram nor Twitter say what caused the nine-year restriction to be lifted.
